Descubriendo otra cultura educativa
Some visits leave a lasting impression, not only because of what you discover, but also because of the people who welcome you and what they share with you.
My visit to TED Ankara Koleji, in Ankara, Turkey, was certainly one of them.
Last summer, during the BEDES Summer Camps in England, I had the opportunity to meet Mr Tamer Atacan, Education Deputy General Manager of TED Ankara Koleji, through my Turkish counterpart, Mrs Ayşegül Efeçınar. That meeting led to this invitation, which I am now delighted to look back on with immense gratitude.
Mr Tamer personally welcomed me and took me on a tour around the school, sharing its history, culture and values. With almost three decades of experience at the institution, first as a History teacher and later taking on different responsibilities before becoming Education Deputy General Manager, he conveys an impressive knowledge of the school and a strong sense of belonging.
I was particularly impressed by the hospitality, warmth and genuine willingness to share. I observed an atmosphere of respect and trust, as well as the close relationship between the director and the teachers, students and wider school community.
This visit allowed me to discover not only the identity and values of an institution founded on the legacy of Atatürk, but also a leadership style that is both approachable and human. Values that ultimately permeate the entire organisation.
I leave with an enriching experience, new insights and, above all, wonderful memories of an extraordinary welcome.
Thank you, Mrs Ayşegül and Mr Tamer, for opening the doors of your wonderful school and making me feel so welcome. It was truly an honour!
Teşekkür ederim!
